“We are expert partners for architects.”

Interview with Dennis Kayser, product manager with emco Bau

Based on a new strategic concept, emco Bau is highlighting aspects such as value retention, safety and creative design variety for its target groups. The company is particularly focusing on architects with this strategy. As a result, the product portfolio has been further optimised, and the cleaning effect has been increased. A clear, new product line structure, together with a wide choice of sizes, loads and looks, makes it easier to choose the solution and combination that best suits the specific building and application. With this carefully planned-out system, emco is positioning itself as a solutions provider. Dennis Kayser, product manager with emco Bau, explains exactly what this means and how architects benefit from it.

Mr. Kayser, please explain the new product line strategy to us.

The product line strategy is an extension of the product range. In addition to the 17- and 22-millimetre profile heights, we now also offer 12 millimetres. There’s also a wide profile version. This applies to the DIPLOMAT and MARSCHALL formats, that is to say, normally resilient and extremely resilient. This means we now have a coherent portfolio that gives architects the greatest possible design freedom. In addition to our highly successful original products – ribbed carpet inserts for indoor areas, cassette brushes and rubber strips for outdoor areas – we have expanded our range to include additional textile inserts. These are produced by our subsidiary C/R/O/ and complete the emco 3-zone cleaning system. Their material properties mean they can guarantee a higher dirt and moisture uptake, thus creating significantly more functionality.

In addition to the Original and Premium lines, emco offers various special solutions that give architects the possibility to plan beyond the entrance mat to the highest possible standards. For example, with tactile guidance systems for the blind, dirt collection wellssubstructures and design elements such as illuminated frames or bespoke stainless steel lettering.

Why should architects choose emco?

emco is an expert partner for architects, and we can pinpoint the best solutions for them. We check the products on our test machines in our in-house research and development centre. Only once we have put the products thoroughly to the test, for instance in terms of slip resistance and fire protection, do we bring them onto the market. In addition to the products, with their invaluable added values, we offer a professional planning and consultation service. Through our comprehensive field service, we are able to advise and support the architect personally throughout the entire project process. Above all, however, emco is one of the few suppliers on the market able to offer a complete system from a single source: the 3-zone cleaning system, which not only collects coarse and fine dirt, and damp dirt, but also includes a clean-off area, which traps any residual dirt. This floor covering is entirely bonded to the floor. The architect is therefore able to produce an impeccable design, optimally match the products to each other and adapt a supremely flexible product construction to their building. In addition, our service includes the texts for invitation to tender on ausschreiben.de, together with all the data sheets and a separate phone number for personalised consultations for architects. Online, we also have our product finder, which guides the architect effortlessly to the right product.

How sustainable are the products?

Sustainability is implicit for us. Firstly, entrance mats ensure that dirt isn’t tracked into the building, as a result of which the floor doesn’t become as dirty. And the more dirt stays outside, the fewer cleaning agents are needed. The floor isn’t compromised by chemicals, and its service life is extended immensely. In general, we are invested in the issue of sustainability because our focus is on preserving value. In addition, we were the first company in the industry to have our products TÜV-certified. Above all, this proves that we comply with the emission standards of the current certificates – an additional benefit in planning and execution, when a building’s ecological focus is important. We also use special recycled ECONYL® yarns and are a member of the DGNB.

How do I find the right entrance matting system?

This depends above all on local conditions. Is there a covered outdoor area or not? How many people come into the building, how much dirt is carried in? Thanks to our wide range of profiles, we have enough variation in our portfolio to always be able to select the best system for the user. The individual profile is reinforced and improved by the chosen insert, the wear layer that reflects the mat’s function: from high moisture absorption all the way through to extreme abrasion resistance, we have everything we need in our portfolio to find the right product tailored specifically to the customer and adapted to the building. To find the right solution online, people can simply use our product finder, which will guide them to the specific enquiry.

What does this mean for the work of architects?

As an innovative supplier, emco will continue to adapt to the needs of its customers, especially architects, in the future. This means we are constantly evolving in order to offer our customers as much freedom as possible. The system – entrance mat with clean-off – now offers even more design scope for entrances. As a consequence, our target group should experience the work of planning the cleaning zone as less of a necessary evil than before. After all, we are constantly developing new possibilities in this area, for example the Color Edition, which you can find out more about in our brochure. It offers architects the possibility to design the entrance mat profiles in colour, too – a further boost to flexibility. In addition to product-specific topics, we are also constantly expanding the service area for architects.
